MEDITATION .... EVOLVING YOUR UNDERSTANDINGS, RECOGNITIONS and MINDSET:

Each and every morning start out your day with meditation. You can meditate in a variety of positions. The idea is to be comfortable, so you can focus on your centering thought and your easy, flowing breath. Some of us meditate with gentle background music playing in the as we sit in a crossed-legged position with our hands on our knees; palms facing upward. Your process of meditation needs to be what makes sense to you, so you can enjoy a calm, meditative state as you focus on your Centering Thought. Next, consider what you are beginning to recognize and follow the prompts in the Considerations and Journaling portion of the exercise.


HEALTHY, NUTRITIVE and DETOXIFYING Go-To FOODS and Shopping List: Living a Whole Food, Plant-Based Life IS KEY. Two-thirds of Americans alive today will die of cancer or heart disease, and many of these deaths will be related to diet. My mission is to share insights to help you take control of your life through nutrition. My whole food, plant-based lifestyle features simple guidelines grounded in science.


Do Certain DIETARY and LIFESTYLE HABITS PROMOTE PSORIASIS?... YES ... Psoriasis is an autoimmune disease of the skin that affects over three percent of the U.S. population (that’s about five million adults), and typically involves scaling and inflammation. Autoimmunity is suspected as the core problem, and the course of the disease typically involves periods of symptom flares alternating with periods of remission. Most often, psoriasis results in patches of thick, red (inflamed) skin covered with silvery scales. Can I be free of this itchy, annoying and not very attractive SKIN? YESSSS !!!


Movies: 

Forks Over Knives (2011): Through an examination of the careers of American physician Caldwell Esselstyn and professor of nutritional biochemistry T. Colin Campbell, the film advocates whole foods, plant-based diet as a means of combating a number of diseases. It suggests that "most, if not all, of the degenerative diseases that afflict us can be controlled, or even reversed, by rejecting our present menu of animal-based and processed foods.

Fat Sick & Nearly Dead (2011):  An inspiringfilm that chronicles Joe Cross’ personal mission and illustrates how quickly a person can get control of their health by changing the food they eat.  

Super Size Me (2004): Cult classic with Morgan Spurlock eating his way to bad health on a month’s worth of fast foods. Required viewing for fast food fans.

Vaxxed: From Cover-Up to Catastrophe (2016): In 2013, biologist Dr. Brian Hooker received a call from a Senior Scientist at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) who led the agency’s 2004 study on the Measles-Mumps-Rubella (MMR) vaccine and its link to autism. The scientist, Dr. William Thompson, confessed that the CDC had omitted crucial data in their final report that revealed a causal relationship between the MMR vaccine and autism. Over several months, Dr. Hooker records the phone calls made to him by Dr. Thompson who provides the confidential data destroyed by his colleagues at the CDC. Dr. Hooker enlists the help of Dr. Andrew Wakefield, the British gastroenterologist falsely accused of starting the anti-vax movement when he first reported in 1998 that the MMR vaccine may cause autism. In his ongoing effort to advocate for children’s health, Wakefield directs this documentary examining the evidence behind an appalling cover-up committed by the government agency charged with protecting the health of American citizens. Interviews with pharmaceutical insiders, doctors, politicians, and parents of vaccine-injured children reveal an alarming deception that has contributed to the skyrocketing increase of autism and potentially the most catastrophic epidemic of our lifetime.

Empowerment, nutrition and fitness are my passion.  There is so much information and misinformation out there today that navigating the path to empowered health can be completely overwhelming.  I get it.  As a single mother of  two, one a world-class athlete, I know it is hard to find the time for yourself.  The very nature of motherhood is such that there aren’t enough minutes in the day.  It is my job is to help you discover the path to a healthier, empowered you, and this means going beyond simply  teaching you what you and should and shouldn’t eat.  It means helping you discover the root of your struggles, and finding what is truly holding you back from your goals.

Vegucated (2010): Vegucated follows three meat and cheese-loving New Yorkers who agree to adopt a vegan diet for six weeks and learn what it's all about. They have no idea that so much more than steak is at stake and that the planet's fate may fall on their plates. Lured by tales of weight lost and health regained, they begin to uncover hidden sides of animal agriculture that make them wonder whether solutions offered in films like Food, Inc. go far enough.

Tapped (2009)  This award-winning documentary certainly blows the cap off the bottled water industry. Aside from the morality of turning drinking water into a commodity, it seems 40 percent of the frosty "product" is actually municipal tap water, bottled and sold at a huge markup. The focus here is on communities in Georgia, Maine, and North Carolina where multinational corporations are quietly pumping large quantities of water for statewide distribution. The filmmakers name Coca-Cola Co., Nestle S.A., and PepsiCo., representatives of which all declined to be interviewed. Meanwhile, millions of gallons of oil are refined each year in the United States to make single-use polyethylene bottles. Most are discarded, ending up as trash, buried in landfills, or floating in the oceans and waterways. The U.S. Federal Drug Administration is criticized in Senate hearings for not regulating bottled water, independent testing of which has found polutants toluene, styrene, and phalates. Bonus features include extended interviews. Highly recommended for all adults, especially those with a thirst for environmental activism. 

Planeat  (2010):The story of three men's life-long search for a diet which is good for our health, the environment and the future of our planet. 

Food, Inc. (2008): The rock stars of the ethical eating movement, Michael Pollen and Eric Schlosser, weigh in on all that is wrong in America’s industrialized food system. Methinks my son summed up this film best: “Sometimes the scariest films are the ones that are real.”

Eating  (2008): Among the many highlights of this movie are interviews with Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn, Dr. Neil Pinckney, Dr. Ruth Heidrich and Dr. Joseph Crowe. Dr. Crowe and Dr. Esselstyn will convince you that cardiovascular disease, the #1 killer in America today, and other chronic diseases, can be reversed by making simple changes to your diet. 

Dirt: The Movie (2009): A funny, thoughtful, and, um grounded look at the fundamental ingredient vital to everything that feeds us. 

Food Fight (2008): An amusing account of modern American Agriculture policy and food culture that sprouted a counter-revolution among veggie-obsessed Californians. 

Fresh (2009): This documentary features fresh thinking from urban farming activist will Allen and sustainable farmer, Joel Salatin.

Killer at Large (2008): This film tackles the giant-sized topic of America’s obesity epidemic with talking heads and the story of a 12-year-old who undergoes liposuction.

King Corn (2007): Two friends head to the heartland to learn a thing or two about how food is farmed and where food comes from.

The Garden (2008): A group of mostly working class, Latino South-Central Farmers fought the good fight — and they’re still at it — for the basic human need to grow food in this Academy Award nominated film.

The Future of Food (2004): Deborah Koons Garcia reveals the unappetizing truth about genetically modified foods: Do you reallyknow what you’re dishing up for dinner?

The Real Dirt on Farmer John (2006): A flamboyant farmer turns his family’s dying farm into a thriving CSA (Community Supported Agriculture). 

Food Stamped (2010): Special mention to a work-in-progress: A Film and Food Couple reveal how hard it is to eat well on a really tight budget.

What the Health (2017): Critically examines the relationship between the food systems supervised by the government and corporations. It exposes the corruption and collusion that causes large segments of the population to remain unhealthy and costs trillions of dollars in healthcare. Kip Anderson reveals the key to preventing and reversing the chronic diseases that many people grapple with today. The documentary looks at the reasons behind the reluctance of the prominent health organisations to inform and assist people in solving these health problems. With cancer and heart disease still remaining the main causes of death in America, and cases of diabetes skyrocketing, the it uncovers potentially the greatest health cover-up in the modern era.

There are many You Tube videos that will offer you informative and supportive nutritional information. The sky is the limit. Here are a few of my favorites. 

The Joy of Juicing (2013):  Gary Null takes the viewer around New York City from uptown in Harlem to the downtown Union Square farmers market, talking to people he meets along the way, about their approaches to health. The American life style of eating over processed and denatured foods is examined, as Gary takes the viewer into natural food markets and explains the vital properties of fruits, nuts and vegetables, which have the healing properties to reverse disease. 

Chocolate, Cheese, Meat, and Sugar -- Physically Addictive (2010): Neal Barnard MD discusses the science behind food additions. Willpower is not to blame: chocolate, cheese, meat, and sugar release opiate-like substances. Dr. Barnard also discusses how industry, aided by government, exploits these natural cravings, pushing us to eat more and more unhealthy foods. A plant-based diet is the solution to avoid many of these problems. Neal Barnard is the founder of the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM) 

Reversing Heart Disease (2012) Dr. Esselstyn, American surgeon and former Olympic rowing champion. He is a leading proponent in the field of plant-based diets talks about a ground breaking concept for a plant based diet. This information goes into depth about the down side of the typical American diet.
